Abstract

This document is published under a shortened title. Its full title is "Resolution of the Division "Psychoanalytic Psychology and Psychotherapy" of the National Psychological Association on regulating relations with Russian psychologists and psychotherapists during Russia's war against Ukraine." The resolution was developed by an initiative group of members of the Division, who are listed in this text as authors, in response to a proposal by representatives of the International Addiction Psychotherapy Association (IAPA). The General Assembly of the Division adopted the text on April 7, 2022, as an internal document of the Division. It states 1) current legal prohibitions on cooperation with Russia; 2) the policy of the Division "Psychoanalytical Psychology and Psychotherapy" as a decision to suspend any forms of cooperation with Russian psychologists and psychotherapists and their associations, regardless of their civic position and political beliefs, until the end of the war, with the subsequent resumption of cooperation only according to the regulations approved by the members of the division, and on the condition that the relevant legislation in Ukraine is changed; 3) an appeal to the members of the division with a request to refrain from professional contacts with Russian psychologists and psychotherapists; 4) clarification of the procedure for handling cases by the Expert Group on Ethics of the Division, in which residents of Russia are involved; 5) determination of issues in which the Expert Group on Ethics will refrain from considering cases during the war. Based on this resolution, representatives of the Division joined the All-Ukrainian working group led by IAPA together with the Ukrainian Union of Psychotherapists, the National Psychological Association, the Kyiv School of Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, the Ukrainian Institute of Addiction Psychotherapy, the Lviv Psychoanalytic Institute of Mental Health and others. The All-Ukrainian working group also developed and approved a short joint resolution on regulating relations with Russia's citizens and residents during the war.
